Health Canada Substance Use and Addictions Program

What we did:

The Howegroup conducted an impact evaluation for Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program, a program designed to develop/enhance practice guidelines, training and tools related to prescription drugs and prescriber education. The purpose of the evaluation was to assess the impact of seven unique projects to determine project level impact of SUAP investments and to create a collective program performance story. Qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques were used to synthesize findings at the program-level, including: partnerships, collaborative working arrangements, knowledge products and knowledge exchange mechanisms; collaboration and knowledge exchange within and among stakeholders; increased awareness and understanding among target populations of substance abuse and its negative consequences; uptake of evidence-informed information on substance abuse by relevant stakeholders; and, increased efficiency and effectiveness of treatment and prevention programs, services and systems.
